Title: "Ecological Momentary Assessment in Audiology Research: Opportunities and Challenges"
Speaker: Dr. Yu-Hsiang Wu, MD, PhD, University of Iowa Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders
Ecological Momentary Assessment (EMA) is a research methodology that involves repeatedly collecting self-reported data from individuals in real time and within their natural environments. EMA provides a wealth of contextually grounded information from individuals without the distortions imposed by inaccurate memory recall and delays inherent in retrospective self-reports. Modern smartphone-based EMA can also integrate with wearables and sensors to gather objective data, such as environmental characteristics and hearing device status, making it a powerful tool for audiology research. This presentation will highlight the development and application of EMA in audiology studies conducted in my lab over the past decade. Attendees will learn how EMA is applied in audiology research, the opportunities it presents for exploring novel research questions, and the challenges associated with its implementation.
The seminars take place every Friday from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. on Zoom.
